ANTIQUE ETHIOPIAN BRASS BEADS

These old beads were hand-forged from recycled brass, individually shaped by an expert Ethiopian craftsman. New beads have a rough texture on their surface, fresh from being formed. These, however, have been worn smooth, naturally polished by time and trade...potentially a century's worth or more.

We were tempted to dismantle the strand and remix the individual beads into other pieces. After sitting with them a while, it felt more appropriate to keep them strung together – forty individually crafted variations on a theme. They have a proper weight about them, and feel good in the hand.
