HYACINTH MACAW SKULL

"It flies in pairs, and feeds on the hard nuts of several palms, but especially of the Mucuja. These nuts, which are so hard as to be difficult to break with a heavy hammer, are crushed to a pulp by the powerful beak of this macaw."

There are 402 species of parrots in the world. The largest of these is Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus, or the Hyacinth macaw. A meter long from the top of its head to the tip of its tail, it is the largest flying parrot on the planet. Native to central and eastern South America, habitat loss and the trapping of wild birds for the pet trade have taken a heavy toll on the species' populations, which is why the skulls we offer are highly detailed resin replicas, allowing you to possess a fascinating object of natural history without negatively impacting the future of these amazing creatures in the wild. Each replica is finished and painted by hand, resulting in slight differences and variations from one skull to the other.
