DARK GREY ASHANTI GLASS SAUCER BEADS

The process of making these beads is unique to Africa and has been used in various forms for over a thousand years. Pulverized glass of various colors is poured into a clay mold, and a cassava stem is used to make the bead's hole. The mold is placed in a furnace and heated until the glass particles congeal without actually melting, and the cassava stem burns away. Ghanaians have been making beads using this specific method since the 1600s.
